Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U13B vs  Shiplake College
On: Saturday, 08 Feb 2020
Venue: at Home

Result: Won 3-1 (HT 3-1).

Goal Scorers: Luca Thomson x 2, Tom Warren.

Man of the Match: Daniel Perkins (second consecutive game as MOTM).

Honourable mentions: Charlie Lucas made several jinxing runs through midfield, Sam Phillips demonstrated great aerial strength, Nayan Popat gave Shiplake defenders no rest with his powerful strikes, and Oliver Bloomfield displayed nifty footwork in the back line.

Having been on the wrong end of a 1-3 scorline last week, today’s game was very much a question of putting into practice some of the lessons learned from seven days ago. It was clear from the outset that the visitors were going to have to work hard to leave Sonning with any sort of a result, and early pressure from Patrick Wisener and Charlie Lucas paid off by setting up Luca Thomson for the opening goal after 8 minutes.

Neat passing between Sam Phillips and Oliver Bloomfield led to our second goal 7 minutes later, with Thomson scoring his second of the game.

Shiplake College managed to find the back of Tom Reseigh’s net after what was initially a tremendous block from the keeper, but the ball found itself at the feet of Shiplake’s attacker, who finished superbly past Reseigh’s reach.

Our two goal lead was restored by Tom Warren on the stroke of half time with a deft lob from outside the area, meanwhile the Shiplake defenders and keeper could only look on in admiration.

Shiplake pushed for a 2nd goal but Blue Coat managed to absorb all the pressure, thwarting the visitors on numerous occasions.

This was a hard-fought and well-deserved 3-1 victory, which restored our self-confidence, and gave us a much needed boost going into the half term break.

Many thanks to Mr Dix, from Shiplake College, for providing the photo.
