Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U13A vs  Shiplake College
On: Saturday, 15 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

The U13As had a terrific start to the season, picking up three excellent victories in the impressive setting of the Epsom College mini tournament.

Shiplake were up first and buoyed by the motivation of not wanting to lose to a lot of their friends, we were on the board in the first minute and tries continued through a variety of sources as Blue Coat spread the ball to the flanks to find particular success out wide. Leading 4-0 at half-time and a second half uphill, nothing was taken for granted and Blue Coat continued with impressive forward running to score 3 more to produce an emphatic 7-0 win.

Next was Ewell Castle with the emphasis placed on firm scrummaging and clearing rucks which the team did with aplomb. There was also a super variety of skills on show as on one move the ball was moved from flank to flank and a pop off the ground saw a close support player crash over in the corner which was great to see, instead of relying on one or two big runners, to produce another 7 tries to nil win.

Epsom College were always going to be a sterner test and so it proved and they kept the ball for significant periods but such was the defensive effort and structure, particularly in the centre, the pressure we exerted in defence saw the ball turned over and once in possession tries once again started to come to eventually run out 5-0 winners.

Try scorers on the day: Lucas Dance and Brandon Kingsbury (4), Tom Day (3), James Davies (2) Kian Morjaria, Henry Hawes, Coen Djamson, Sam Deacon, Dylan Baker & Jack Rees,

'Celebrity mentions' -

To Lucas and Brandon for taking the moves from the training pitch into the game and exploiting the 'blind side' superbly.

To Coen for being the most improved player throughout the day,

To Ed Telling for hitting more rucks than probably any other player.

To Dylan, Ollie Matthews, Tom Day and Jack Rees for an impenetrable mid-field defence as we didn't concede a single try on the day.

Well done all, great start with sterner tests to come.
