A well played game that was at times much closer than the score would suggest.
The game commenced with a very sloppy defence line from RBCS which saw us concede early at 4” but that was enough for us to switch over. Queue a serious of hotly contested breakdowns ending in a try by Omekara (9”)!!! ...yet it was not a performance the B’s were able to repeat as RGS scored off a – let’s be fair – tremendous crash ball.
With both sides awake, the game was on. As I said, a close game and so further concessions were inevitable. Despite an incredibly hard hitting defence (credit to Brennan and Walsh* here), we soon let another one in.
The strategy was simple: tie up their forwards and outpace them on the wings. Tacey-Green, Miles and Warner were taking AND giving some absolute mauling whilst 9* and 10* got the backs organised and running hard up the wings. Two quick tries by Brennan (19”, 23”) had us briefly up until RGS equalised. ?
The second half really could have been anyone’s game but a serious of injuries, a yellow card, and sheer exhaustion meant we just couldn’t quite make it. There was a tremendous play which had Arhan seemingly running into contact only to out-step and outpace their entire defensive line and score (40”) but by now RGS were wise to our plays and managed to score four more credible tries.
Motm: Genuinely hard to say, there were so many good moments. Amongst much competition, I am awarding it to...Brennan.
