RBCS 5 Gordon's 3
Goal scorers: Okemwa 3, Agar, Zambon
MOTM: Ryan Okemwa
After an impressive performance in the cup midweek, the boys looked to do the same in a friendly against Gordons. Blue Coat started excellently once again playing lovely football. A lofted pass from Joe Zambon to Alfie Agar was controlled well before being put into the bottom corner from outside the box to give Blue Coat an early lead. Two threaded through balls from Alfie Agar led to two well taken finishes from Joe Zambon and Ryan Okemwa. Despite scoring three in the first half, Blue Coat once again failed to convert chances which came back to haunt them as the half-finished 3-3. A scrappy second half in the pouring rain made it hard for Blue Coat to employ their patterns of play. However, with 10 minutes to play a well worked move down the right-hand from James Davis and Henry Mellor saw Joe Zambon square a ball across the 6-yard box that Ryan Okemwa swept home to give Blue Coat the lead. With seconds left in the game Ryan Okemwa was able to beat his man down the left and poke it home to seal the victory for Blue Coat, another good performance to go with a good result!
This was a peculiar game in that Blue Coat scored 5, beat a team that we lost to 4-0 last season and created many chances, yet we still felt a little frustrated at the end.
Some devastating attacking play created more than 15 good scoring chances, but a combination of poor finishing, bad luck and good goalkeeping saw RBCS take only 3 of these chances. At the other end, Gordon's threatened sporadically, but some poor defending on our part gifted them 3 goals.....3-3 at half-time in a game we should have been leading 5-0.
Blue Coat will have to be more clinical in both penalty areas if they are to have a successful season.
