Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U16A vs  Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood
On: Wednesday, 02 Oct 2024
Venue: Away

A heartbreak result for a group of young men who gave absolutely everything to the dying seconds of the match. After weathering some early strong running from MTS, Blue coat found their groove and for pretty much the entirety of the first half found themselves camped on the MTS line. The boys moved the ball well and the likes of Ben A. And Joe W. We’re making consistent ground with their carries. Will O also started to shine popping up in the wide channels. Blue coat crossed the line four times but couldn’t get on the scoreboard before Harry M. Showed a clean pair of heals to race after a kick and dot down. Unfortunately MTS responded immediately of the kick off and we were all square going into the second half. Toby O put in some crunching tackles in defence but penalties in the second half hamstrung Blue coat who couldn’t put a string of positives together. A heavy war of attrition saw MTS eventually cross in the corner and convert. A phenomenal shift from the forwards saw a driving maul that have been threatening all evening finally cross for Reading but a missed conversion and then an MTS penalty took the game out of reach. The hardest losses are those when you give everything and still come up short. But it was not for lack of effort or skill or desire that we were on the wrong end of the scoreline. That is sport it’s why we play.
