U16As 10 Vs RGS High Wycombe 30

Try Scorers: Benji Carmen, Theon Yiakoumi

Player of the Match: Harry Turner

A typical preseason match with much to ply for but also a lot to learn. Reading Blue Coat had a depleted team with some injuries and some still not back from holidays. The first 20mins saw a much larger RGS back line show their power and crossed in the corner, however Reading grew into the game scoring a line out drive and a pick and go through Benji Carmen after sustained pressure on the RGS line. RGS hit back in the dying moments of the third after numerous penalties and a well taken quick tap.

RGS put put on their strongest team for the middle third and their hard running started to tell despite some epic tackling from Ethan Charley and Zach Austin. Reading were strong in defence but couldn’t make their attacking possessions count losing the ball in contact.

For the final third both teams were well matched but without an established back line RGS took their chances when there was miscommunication in defence taking two tries. However Harry Turner, Josh Knee and Ollie Arnold were excellent at keeping us on the front foot and coaching the forwards that had stepped into the breach.

Overall an encouraging performance despite the score line. RBC played much more rugby than RGS with the patterns that had been worked on in preseason starting to be seen on the pitch.
