Honourable mention to Oli, Massimo, Thom & Rufus
Despite the early start, our long coach ride down to Bishops Wordsworth and the rush through pre-match preparations, the sun graced us with its presence, setting the stage for another glorious day of Rugby. After three weeks, we were finally settling into our warm-up routine, ironing out the kinks and dropped balls, and focusing on the task ahead.
From the kick-off, we kicked off to a fantastic start, with some powerhouse carries right from the get-go, led by Josh and Rory, who bulldozed through the initial tackles. Supporting players executed what we had practised tirelessly in training the week before, securing precious ruck ball. This laid a solid foundation for our forwards to hit the gain line hard, allowing Lorenzo and Rufus plenty of time before sending the ball swiftly out to the waiting wings.
Our driving maul, following a lineout, gave us ample time to set up our plays and make penetrative runs through the heart of the opposition's defence. Running straight lines and spreading the ball wide, Lucas and Charlie each found themselves over the try line twice, with Captain Thom and Jasper sharing kicking duties.
Once again, our forward pack's rush defence stood out, but a special nod goes to Oli, who relentlessly pursued their fly-half, denying them opportunities to launch attacks. Bishops Wordsworth managed to break our line on only two occasions, but our team's exceptional backtracking and some monumental try-saving tackles from Thom and Ben ensured they never breached our defence, preserving a clean sheet.
