Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School 1st XI vs  Lord Wandsworth College Boys-U18F
On: Wednesday, 29 Jan 2020
Venue: at Home

The boys arrived early and excited for the first hockey match of the new decade. There was no sign of the typical prematch nerves, as confidence coursed through the side, looking to get a good warm up match in before the big game against Shiplake in two weeks time. Would this be a classic trap game, with the boys looking past the opposition?

Andrew Perkin answered that question definitively, as he stole the ball and ran through the heart of the Lord Wandsworth's team to slide the ball underneath the keeper for the first goal of the game within a minute. The RBC 11 continued to play some flowing hockey, slicing through the opppostion at will, resulting in a flurry of goals to go into half time 5-1 up. In true RBC spirit, we loaned them Henry Saxby in effort to even the playing field, and restricted the All-World quartet of Jeffrey, Perkin, Deacon and Davis to their own half.

The second half was a 25 minute effort to make Akash's dreams of a hockey hat-trick come true, but fell agonisingly short when his beautiful through the legs deflection to the bottom corner was (correctly) judged to have hit his foot rather than stick.

Special mentions must be made to Saxby for not injuring any RBC players, and Dirk for his immeasurable unselfishness. This resulted in an open goal chance for him turning into a Lord Wandsworth break away as he squared the ball to Akash who was surrounded by multiple defenders and a keeper.

Overall an excellent 9-1 tune up as the team heads for their cup final on the 12th of February.
