U15A Match Report- County Cup Final 2019

RBC 20 - 10 St Barts

Try scorers- Fin Mackay, George Thomas

Conversions- Tom David (2)

Pens- Tom David (2)

Man of the match- Christian Melhuish- Outstanding in defence and always a threat in attack. His attitude and approach was exemplary throughout.

Brief report- The boys capped off an excellent season by winning the County Cup at Maidenhead RFC. In the first half we dominated, retaining ball, kicking well and using the huge pitch to our advantage. Fin Mackay scored the first try, having been nearly dragged to the ground, he managed to keep his feet to break the Barts line and run in under the posts from 30m. George Thomas then took advantage of some sloppy ball play from Barts. They spilled the ball in their own in-goal area and George was opportunistic and dived on the ball to score our second try. With both tries converted we had a healthy lead- but St Barts had some good players and always kept us on our toes.

In the second period, that threat became real and they scored two tries to get themselves back in the tie. Our discipline at the break down let us down a little and we struggled with possession and territory as a result. We managed to extend our lead eventually through two well struck penalties from Tom David to ensure that RBC came away with the trophy winning 20-10.

Excellent effort boys, you've done really well this year and to defend your county cup is no easy task. Best wishes to Fin Mackay who is hopefully on the mend after an injury in the final. And many thanks to all the B team boys who played in the earlier rounds of the tournament- your efforts contributed to winning the cup.
