Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U15A vs  English Schools Cup Final
On: Saturday, 07 Dec 2019
Venue: Away

Last Saturday saw the year 9 and 10 runners in action in the final of the English Schools Cross Country Cup held at Mount St Mary's College in Derbyshire. To reach this stage, the boys won the county round and then came second in the South West regional round. This is the eigth time in the past nine years the school has reached these national finals and it is always a great occasion. As expected, competition was extremely tough amongst the top twenty seven schools in the country and the Blue Coat team ran exceptionally well to finish 15th overall with the winners coming from the Judd School in Kent.

Chris Parker was our first athlete home finishing in a superb 13th position out of a field of 150. Oliver Bryant was next in 41st followed by Will Thompson in 90th, Nicholas Haldane in 108th and Tristan Hart in 122nd. All the boys ran exceptionally well which was very evident in the time they took to recover after the race, and they did themselves and the school immense credit. Chris and Will have now competed in four finals in a row with Oliver in three which is no mean feat..

To reach a national final in any sport is a great achievement and the teams goal all term has been to achieve a place in this race. They have trained hard and prepared for their competitions in a very professional way and this has to stand them in good stead for the future. Very well done to all concerned and a big thank you also to Mr Bellinger who has helped out hugely in the past two rounds.
