Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U15A vs  Highgate School
On: Thursday, 26 Sep 2019
Venue: at Home

Thursday this week saw the first competitive RBC tennis fixture of the year. Having won our group last spring, we were now involved in 2 final knockout fixtures before the big one........the National Area Final!

Our opponents on Thursday in the first of these knockout fixtures was Highgate School from Middlesex, in what turned out to be a weather interrupted afternoon. The match didn't begin well for RBC, as we lost the first 3 singles rubbers 6-0, 6-4, 6-2 respectively! However, Josh Aston pulled one back for us winning his head to head battle 6-4. This meant that we were going into the doubles 3-1 down!

With the match at this stage being delayed by the rain, and for RBC had to come out and win both the doubles matches, it was an uphill struggle for the boys. However, Josh Aston and Marios Gialvalis got us off to a great start winning 6-2. So it came down to Alex Panov and Oscar Falkentoft to bring home a win and take us into a sudden death champions tie-break! After a nervy finish to their set, and after squandering 2 match points, they came through in a tie-break 7-3!

All of this meant we were set-up for a grandstand finish, with both teams in a position to clinch the win and progress on in the competition. The champions tie-break (first to 10) was close at one stage, but coming through and holding their nerve, Alex and Josh triumphed 10-7! A fantastic effort from the boys, showing great determination and character under a good deal of pressure! They're now looking forward to the last remaining knockout fixture in 2 weeks time! Good luck to all the boys involved!
