Men of the match: the forward pack, who dominated all the rucks and scrums.

We made the decision, given the very wet and slippy conditions, to keep the ball in hand and predominately with the forwards. This tactic, along with the team being back to full strength, meant that we dominated for most of the match. Ben Philips was in his element, water, and hence excelled in the conditions scoring three of our tries. Louis Lancaster's conversions were reliably consistent, even when the try scorers couldn't be bothered heading towards the posts! Due to the power of the forwards in the scrums we had to move to uncontested scrums to keep everyone safe as we drove the Oratory team back too fast. Both Charlie Davies-Carr and Alex McLoughlin provided secure handling and passes when we did release the backs and wingers on runs. Jacob put in his trademark try saving tackles and both Harry Smith and Jake Reeve stopped any breaks and cleared up Oratory's speculative kicks.

This was an excellent whole team performance, including the substitutes, by adapting our play to the conditions and managing the team decisions very impressively themselves as I hosted the opposition and refereed. We look forward to continuing with this level of performance again in two day's time in our first flood lit match Monday after school.
