U15A Match Report

RBC U15A 20 - 21 Oratory

Try scorers- Tom David, James Stewart, Jake Gaines, Will Price

Man of the match- Jack Ruston- Error free, powerful performance

Brief Match report:

With a delayed start, freezing, extremely wet conditions and Henry Temple pulling his calf in the first 30 seconds- it wasn't the ideal start for the squad.

In a error strewn game- both sides managed the situation and conditions poorly. With numerous knock-ons and non existent defences it was a try fest in the first half. What was disappointing was that two of our knock-ons were fly hacked through for Oratory scores. That plus three penalties gave Oratory a lead at 15-18 with 20 to go- with us scoring 3 well worked tries through Will Price, James Stewart and Tom David.

The game then settled into an arm wrestle with us looking for points but there backs defending superbly. Eventually Jake Gaines crossed over out wide to give us the lead for the first time in the game at 20-18 with 10 minutes to go.

Then came the big decision. James Stewart was binned for a dangerous tackle, even though the Oratory player had jumped into it. Losing him and the resulting penalty meant that we lost 20-21. The squad know what went wrong and hopefully they will learn from it- In conditions like we witnessed on Saturday- it is not a day for out the back offloads and holding the ball with one hand. They also realise that we cannot make as many basic errors as we did- with 10 plus knockons and line out jumpers dropping too many balls killed us in the game and meant we couldn't get any flow.

I'm glad the boys are warm now- a titanic effort to play 3 games in 4 days- its just a shame we couldn't finish off a wonderful week after defeating Eton on Wednesday.

I wish the boys well against Merchant Taylors on Tuesday- unfortunately Year 9 parents evening is also that night and so I'm missing out on this one.
