Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U13A vs  Lord Wandsworth College Boys-U13E
On: Wednesday, 20 Mar 2019
Venue: Away

For the first time in recent memory, boys from year 7 and 8 at Reading Blue Coat were out playing a hockey fixture, representing the school with pride and palpable excitement. The boys made the trip to Lord Wandsworth to play a double header. The level of hockey shown was impressive considering they had never played a game together before, with some lovely chemistry on display between Ethan Morgan and Dominic Carpenter culminating in a brace for Ethan to take the first game 2-0. In the second game strong displays from Sam Deacon at the back and Jack Leftley in midfield left the result in little doubt from the start. Despite a handful of the boys having never played hockey before, in particular Owen Wilkinson who had not picked up a stick before but still gave maximum effort, they cruised to a 5-1 victory thanks to a hattrick on debut from Barney Pawson with every member of the squad making valuable contributions. A particular positive was the spirit in which the boys played, showing great sportsmanship, highlighted by Barney telling his teammates " don't celebrate too much, it's rude" despite having just slotted his third goal into the bottom corner. The boys came home with smiles on their faces, and the future of hockey at the school looking bright.
