Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School 1st XI vs  Shiplake College
On: Wednesday, 27 Feb 2019
Venue: at Home

Blue Coat overcame a technically proficient Shiplake side in a feisty battle but it leaves us in clear command at the top of the Thames Valley League. We started slowly, seeming to respect the opposition a little too much, and could have been 2-0 down in the first quarter of the game.

A couple of good Dan Algar saves (he really did put his body on the line!) and defensive clearances kept us in it, and as is often the case, we punished the opposition with two quick goals from Josh Harris and Jamie Vickery, for a fortunate 2-0 half-time lead.

Shiplake hit back right at the start fo the second half and bossed much of the play for 10-15 minutes without scoring again.

We had our own chances too and the game separator came from a 25yd Nick Evans shot into the bottom corner. Further chances followed at both ends but we stayed resolute as MoM Jamie Vickery kept tabs on old boy Eddie Lee, assisted by his evil henchman, Kieran Burgess.

The coach re-jigged the side through the middle bringing Cam Ireland into the fray and pushing others further forward. This resulted in another goal from Josh, and daylight in the match score at 4-1.

Shiplake scored what proved to be a consolation goal for 4-2 but we felt we had control at this point. The game had lost some of its quality because of its competitive nature but every single player knew they had been in a tough battle, and every one of them played well, including all of the vital subs.
