Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School 1st XI vs  Little Heath School
On: Wednesday, 05 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

Blue Coat made it through safely to play County Cup football in the New Year with a big win over perennial opposition in cup competitions, Little Heath. Considering that we were missing the likes of Mike Green, Will Good and Nick Evans, it made the performance even better, with everyone offering a successful contribution.

On a miserably wet day and a boggy pitch, we set about the task quickly with a high tempo game that created chances immediately, although it took until the minute 15 for Josh Harris to put us ahead.

James Henry was clearly the best player on the pitch by a distance and expressed himself throughout the match, adding three further goals before half-time.

A solid defensive unit with Kieran Burgess and Cam Ireland in the middle rarely looked troubled by the only long-ball tactic on offer, and the rotating full-backs of Mike Cullen, Toby Greatwood and Aiden Sinclair all played well and covered lots of ground.

In front, they were screened with disciplined efforts from Jamie Vickery and Jack MacNeill and with James in the middle of midfield, he was supported very well by the rotation of Harry Williams, Joel Riley, Will Tate and Year 11 Theo Wayland-Smith, along with Josh up front.

Dan Algar had so little to do I think he was slightly caught out by a snapshot that skidded under him for their only goal in the second half. A forgivable misdemeanour.

The game gave an opportunity for lots of players to show their credentials for the coming season but it was the intensity offered by all, and the willingness to play successfully in a variety of positions that really pleased the coach.

We look forward to the quarter-final in January.
