Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U18A vs  Radley College

RBCS dramatically knocked out of HMC foursomes competition in badly fading light despite honourably drawn match against Radley College.

Following an exciting and always-close main series of matches, RBCS lost a single hole play off when final pair Eddie Wang and Aidan Sinclair could not quite get the better of their counterparts in a 100 yard closest-to-the-hole shootout at Sonning GC.

This perhaps seemed an unfair exit following a wonderful performance against a school boasting its own course and an excellent recent record in national competitions.

Will Tate and partner Ollie Bryant led the team out in fine style despite losing very narrowly by just one hole. Then youngsters Luca Knowles and Toby Pressey impressively overcame their elder opponents 4 and 2.

So it was down to the final pair of Eddie and Aidan. Things looked good as they lay "dormeuil" 2 after the 16th (2 up with two holes to play" ie in an unassailable position). The opposition impressively mustered the resolve and skill to take those final holes and force the play-off. Perhaps a little rattled by the experience and obviously nervous in near dark conditions with a host of very partisan spectators, all 4 players struggled to see the green, let alone play shots at the flag. In the end Eddie's shot safely found the green's surface but was a frustrating yard or two further form the hole than his fortunate opponent.

Mr Bateman congratulates the boys on the spirit and and grace they showed in this defeat, Despite now being out of both main national events, he is confident we are building a very strong golf squad for the future given the match-play experience the many younger boys are currently enjoying.
