RBCS 15 - City of London 30

Scorers Tom Day (2), Reiss Alexander Russell-Denny

Celebrity mention - Tom Day for two tries and a monumental defensive effort.

The U13As came down to earth with a bump after the exploits of last weekend as they were put to the sword by a free playing and highly skilled CoL side.

Having warmed up excellently (sometimes a worrying sign) where the ball was moved seamlessly from side to side the forwards decided to take the game to CoL in the tight leaving our real danger men watching form afar. In fairness, Kian Morjaria, Coen Djamson and Max Dhanda all produced some strong runs close in but it certainly wasn’t the type of rugby we had been hoping to play.

When we did move the ball, Tom Day, Brandon Kingsbury and Reiss Alexander Russell-Denny all looked extremely dangerous with the ball in hand but excellent defensive efforts from CoL meant several try scoring opportunities went begging. When CoL moved the ball they did so fluently and scored some excellent tries and despite tries from Tom Day and an excellent kick return from Reiss, we went into half-time 4-2 down.

Turning around in the second half with the slope and wind, the game was still well within our grasp but CoL’s strong runners found spaces in our midfield defence, which had been so solid the week before, to extend the lead. Brandon was unfortunately held up over the line and then Tom brought it back to 4-3 to give us hope but that was immediately snuffed out as CoL scored their 5th and 6th tries shortly after.

Not quite back to the drawing board, but a greater commitment to tackling and rucking is an absolute must.
