Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School Boys-U15B vs  Shiplake College
On: Saturday, 15 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

An excellent first performance by the U15B team in a closely contested match. A delayed start seemed to catch the team sleeping and we conceded quickly from the start, however, by the end of first half we were winning 15-7 with tries from James Hayden, Tom Osborn and Ben Pyne. This lead increased to 20-7 at the start of the second half before Shiplake fought back to end the match as winners 20-21. The team felt robbed as the final whistle was blown whilst we were camped on Shiplake's try line and had just won another penalty. But the contest was prematurely ended to enable our injured captain, Jim Roberts, to be treated.

The U15B forwards grew in confidence throughout the match: stabilising and holding the scrum and lifting Dan Corfield and Nick Griffiths safely enabling us to win all but one of our line-outs. Jack Robinson, standing in at the last minute due to Alex Bacon's breaking his finger during training, was man of the match for his huge performance as scrum half. The backs, in particular: Nik Sandu, Henry Kayll, Marcus Baines and Felix Johnston dominated in their contest and regularly broke through the opposition's defence. Gabriel Isaacs showed his usual huge bursts of speed providing the team with large territory gains. Whilst Andrew Babcock cleaned up all of Shiplake's defensive kicks and then drove forward to minimise or completely cancel out any territory loss. A good team performance which, with a few small amendments, will improve with more game experience.
