•Whilst results did not always go their way, the U12Cs can feel very proud of the progress they made throughout the season. There was great excitement at the start of the season as the group of players of wildly varying rugby experience came together for the first time. After the pandemic imposed hiatus, there was invariably a focus on core skills and the group worked hard to improve each and every training session. This resulted in a steady improvement in the quality of the team’s performances as the players learned to apply their skills in match situations and, crucially, how to work together effectively as a team. Wins against Gordon’s School and Magdalen College Oxford bookended the season, but the highlight was a narrow 25-20 loss to RGS Guildford during which the team showed great character to come back from a big half time deficit against the strongest team we faced all season. The commitment in defence that day and the physicality of the rucking was what brought us back into the game and demonstrated amply how much the players had learned. Fynn O’Driscoll’s physicality, George Redfern’s tenacious tackling and Ibaad Rehman’s strong running were at the heart of the team’s successes, but everyone played their part and showed great adaptability given the large number of different players who took to the field. As they grow and develop, I would expect to see a number of this C team side challenging for positions in the A and B teams in the years to come. - ETR
