Match Report
Reading Blue Coat School 1st XI vs  Cokethorpe School
On: Wednesday, 11 Mar 2020
Venue: Away

Blue Coat staged an incredible comeback from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 against a very good Cokethorpe side in a hugely enjoyable and competitive game.

The Blue Coat team was in the ascendancy when once more, the failure to convert several good chances was followed by a couple of unusual defensive errors, leaving us a little unfairly adrift in the match. It might have been worse when an opposition shot hit the bar but we got to halfway 2-0 down.

The team talk was upbeat, we were playing well and we just needed to 'Keep the faith' and goals would come.

We continued to play well through the second half before Cam Ireland managed to bundle the ball in following a goalmouth scramble at a corner.

Cokethortpe then had a break and only a magnificent save from Marcus Baines pushed the ball onto the post, and the defence blocked the follow-up shot and cleared the danger.

Not long after, a long ball up the left wing saw Josh Harris cut in from the left, beating a defender, and from a tight angle smashed the ball into the far top corner. It was a strike that could have been the 'Goal of any Season' and it tied the game at 2-2.

We continued to create opportunities, and Cokthorpe had theirs too but we had wrestled back control of the match and, with a degree of inevitability, we went ahead through a close-range poked finish, again from Josh Harris.

Had the match ended in a draw I would still have felt it was a wonderful fight back, but to edge the win against the team that had just beaten Gordons 5-0 (after Gordons had beaten us 2-0) was very satisfying for coach and players.
